POLICY:

An individual, 18 years or older, may adopt an animal from the MOV Reptile House (MOVRH) under the following conditions:

The reptile has been classified as adoptable, MOVRH.

The prospective Adopter has proper facilities, knowledge, and means to care for the reptile.

The adopter has met or can meet the minimum caging requirements which are listed next to each adoptable reptile before possession of said animal.

Crocodilians, Large Monitors, overly aggressive animals, and snakes exceeding 10’ are not adoptable to the general public. These are ONLY adoptable by trained professionals, and educational and zoological facilities. We only accept applications on these animals on site and in person at our facility. Please call to schedule an appointment.

We reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone. We are not a government agency, and can choose our adoptive homes by any means we decide to utilize.

We will accept reptiles that we have the space and financial ability to help. If your animal is sick, we may either refuse it, or ask that you give a reasonable donation towards what the expected vet cost will be.  If your animal is large or aggressive, we may not have proper caging for it. Ask - we will try to help wherever necessary. Those animals we are not able to take in at our discretion can be placed on our website at no charge, if you provide us with a photograph, as much info as possible about it, and your adoption fee. We will then try to help coordinate the adoption for you.

Our adoption fees vary from animal to animal. There are no "standard" fees. Adoption fees are not final, and we can/will waive them if we deem it appropriate and necessary to placing the animal in the best home. In general, though - if you can't afford our minor adoption fee, it will certainly raise a question about your ability to care for the animal.

PROCEDURE:

The adoption procedure requires that:

The prospective adopter will satisfactorily fill out and submit questionnaire/application.

Once a completed application has been received it will be reviewed by MOVHR. If it is declined you will be notified by email (don’t forget to check your spam box) of the decision and the process ends. You may reapply at any time for a different animal. Again, we reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone. We are not a government agency, and can choose our adoptive homes by any means we decide to utilize. If you are approved you will be notified by telephone and email. You have seven (7) days from notification to make arrangements to pick up your adopted reptile, pay adoption fees, and complete paperwork. After seven (7) days you forfeit your right to adopt said animal and must start the process over again. We do not hold animals for anyone. Make sure when you fill out the application that you are ready to accept responsibility of your new pet at that time.

At the time of pick up:

The prospective adopter MUST present a valid form of identification.

Pay any adoption fees and sign and complete all adoption paperwork and other requirements.

Provide a suitable container to transport your new pet home.

Provide any necessary permits or licenses as required.

Proof of residency may be required for some animals that intrastate transport is regulated or banned by a governing force.

Provide written pet agreement from landlord (if renting).
